To strengthen nursing practice by providing assistance for advance preparation in the field of cancer nursing research.

Qualifications -
Applicants must be currently enrolled in or applying to a doctoral degree program in nursing or a related field of research; must meet the requirements for doctoral study and must have been accepted by the institution to which they have applied at the time of funding; must have a current license to practice as registered nurses; must project a program of study that integrates cancer nursing and provides evidence of faculty support for the program of study; must take a minimum of 18 credit hours or 6 courses per year; must demonstrate a commitment to cancer nursing as evidenced by recent experience, education and/or research in the specialty area.
Criteria
Selection will be based on the relevant professional experience in oncology; involvement in professional organizations, including leadership roles; involvement in activities of the American Cancer Society or other relevant volunteer organizations; clear, explicit and realistic professional goals; consideration of program components, particularly oncology content, in selecting a doctoral program; conduct or plan to conduct research that is important, methodologically sound, and relevant to the health of persons affected with cancer or at risk for cancer; commitment from a faculty advisor who is experienced in the student's area of study and will provide guidance in academic and research activities; selection of a doctoral program which will support the student's professional goals and research; and dedication to cancer nursing research.
