To encourage students to use and practice their writing skills through essay contests.

Qualifications -
Applicant must be a 12th grade, undergraduate and graduate-level students worldwide.
Criteria
Essays will be judged on whether the student is able to argue for and justify their view--not on whether the Institute agrees with the view the student expresses. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of Atlas Shrugged.

To Apply
Applicants must read Atlas Shrugged and write an 800 to 1,600-word essay on one of three assigned topics available on aynrand.org/contests; applicants may submit the essay online or by mail.
