Purpose
To support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators or an ensemble of artists by providing a grant for a specific literary arts project in a limited time period.
Focus -
Arts; Literature.
Qualifications -
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; have their primary residence in Alberta for one full year before applying for a grant. In order to be eligible from a project grants, ensembles must be made up of members who meet the individual criteria. Applicants, including ensembles, must not be incorporated with provincial or federal corporate registries. Eligible projects must meet the criteria in one of the following categories: (a) Art production: the creation of a new literary work. Eligible projects may be a distinct phase of a new work, such as a first draft or a final draft, in one of the eligible literary genres; (b) Marketing: a program of activity for a specific period of time to disseminate a completed literary work and/or to develop audiences and markets for an artists' work. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, promotional reading tours and book launches; on-line marketing initiatives such as book trailers; attendance at literary festivals, non-academic conference or award presentation by invitation; (c) Research: a program of activity for a specific period of time that supports or results in the development of new work in the literary arts. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, experimentation, exploration and research of primary materials; (d) training and career development: a course or program of study to develop a writer's training in one or more of the eligible literary genres, including literary translation. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, workshops, master classes, retreats, mentorship programs and professional courses. Except for projects in the training and career development category, eligible applicants must be professional writers who have had literary works professional published or produced. Professional literary publications or productions are literary works: (a) that have gone through an editorial process made by an independent editor/editorial board or that have gone through a dramaturgical process; (b) that have been published or produced by organizations with a majority of paid contributors who are not principals of the publishing or producing organization; (c) for which the writer has received compensation either as royalties, fees or honoraria, or as in-kind remuneration in the form of complimentary copies or a complimentary subscription; (d) of which the writer owns copyright; (e) that are available and accessible to the general public. Eligible literary arts genres are defined as the following: novels, short fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, graphic novels, plays, young adult fiction and picture books. Professional writers of literary work are those who meet at least one of the following publication or production requirements: (a) a literary book published in print or as an e-book by a professional publishing house; (b) a minimum of two texts of short fiction, such as short stories or excerpts from a novel, published on two separate occasions in print or online literary magazines or periodicals, or in print or e-book anthologies published by professional publishing houses; (c) a minimum of five poems published on at least two separate occasions in print or online literary magazines or periodicals, or in print or e-book anthologies published by professional publishing houses; (d) a minimum of two texts of literary non-fiction published on two separate occasions in print or online literary magazines or periodicals, or in print or e-book anthologies published by professional publishing houses; (e) a play professionally produced. Applicants with a publishing or producing history established outside of Canada must provide in their artistic resumes evidence that their publications or productions are professional literary work. A statement of editorial and copyright policy of the publishes or producers may be required.

Applicants must submit legal name and confirmation of the applicant status; applicant contact Information: street and mailing address for the primary applicant or gallery; a completed applicant agreement including the e-signature of the primary applicant; an artistic resume of no more than four pages, with current mailing address which outlines any past exhibitions, achievements, teaching experience or formal education as applicable; images must be submitted a single image of a single artwork, multiple images of a single artwork; all video and audio files must be Windows compatible, MP3 and MP4 files; it may be asked for additional information to determine eligibility or any other program.
