Purpose
To provide support for young scholars who are in the phase of completing their dissertations, as well as to advance research after being awarded the PhD.
Focus -
Art history.
Qualifications -
Applicants must be PhD candidates in a department of art history in the United States completing their dissertation which focuses on a topic in the history of the visual arts of the United States; be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and have completed all the requirements for the PhD except the dissertation before the beginning of the fellowship tenure.
Criteria
Recipient is selected based on: The quality of the proposal with regard to its methodology, scope, theoretical framework, and grounding in the relevant scholarly literature; potential of the project to advance the field of study in art history, both generally and in the specific field(s) it engages; applicant's record of scholarly engagement and potential for scholarly achievement.

Applicants must complete the application form including statement of all university and external support received during graduate study; double-spaced proposal including a timeline for the expected completion of the dissertation writing and defense (not more than five pages); up to additional three pages of supporting materials; bibliography of not more than two pages; a completed chapter of the dissertation; two reference letters, one of which must come from the applicant's dissertation advisor; List of publications, exhibitions, and/or presentations.
