To support individual who planned to conduct research in American art and visual culture.

Qualifications -
Applicants must be pre- and postdoctoral scholars who wish to work with Smithsonian American Art Museum advisors; PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scholars from any field who are pursuing research on American art are eligible to apply.
Criteria
Selection will be evaluated based on the quality of the proposed research project, academic standing, scholarly qualifications and experience. The project's compatibility with Smithsonian collections, facilities, staff and programs will be also considered; a committee of curators and historians will review the applications.
Award Duration -
Annual.

Applicants should apply to the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program, found under the Office of Fellowships in the online application system (SOLAA), and not under the museum's name; must propose a primary advisor/supervisor from SAAM to be eligible for a fellowship at this museum; Applications will be evaluated on the originality and quality of the proposed research project.
